NDIS home and living supports come with a lot of acronyms. The simplest way to remember them is that some fund the support a person receives, and some fund the home itself.
SIL: Supported Independent Living
SIL funds help and supervision with daily tasks so a participant can live as independently as possible, often in a shared home with other participants. It pays for the support, such as personal care and household tasks, not for rent or the house.
SDA: Specialist Disability Accommodation
SDA funds the home itself. It is specially designed or modified housing for participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. A participant can receive SDA and SIL together, with SDA covering the building and SIL covering the support.
STA: Short-term accommodation
STA, often called respite, funds a short stay away from home, including support, accommodation and activities. It is typically used to give participants a break or a new experience, and to give families and carers a rest.
MTA: Medium-term accommodation
MTA funds somewhere to live for a limited period while a participant waits to move into their long-term home, for example while SDA is being built or home modifications are completed.
How Innovara iQ helps
